Virtual Box - USB access

Asked by srikumar

Virtual Box was installed thro the Ubuntu Software Centre and thereafter WinXP was installed as guest and was followed by 2 other windows programs. All programs are working OK.

The Data was backed up onto another physical Hard Disk. How to transfer this data to the WinXP virtual disk. I was planning to do this thro the USB Drive but cannot get WinXP to mount the USB drive.

any suggestions ?
thanks

Srikumar,

I can't really help with the first part of you question but thought I'd comment on the USB & VBox part.

If you are using VirtualBox from the Ubuntu repository, this is the OSE (open source edition) which does NOT support USB, for that you need the PUEL version available either as a download or repository from: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Best of luck,
George

I have decided to keep the present installation of Virtual Box OSE with WinXP and other windows programs running on ii. I am using shared folders to access the data folders in the Ubuntu Hard Disk. This has been working OK so I will be able to do without the USB access.

The USB could be accessed when I am booted in Ubuntu.

Thanks
