Partition setting newbie question

Asked by Xpatnat

Until now I had Ubuntu Karmic with no partition and I'm about to install XP on my system. This is the way I partitioned my HDD

Since I'd never done this before I have a few newbie questions :

Why do I have 86.29 Mib on the left side? What are those for? Should I remove it?
Shouldn't the 34.18 Gib unallocated space (for XP) be on the left side and gathered with the 86.29 Mib?
Does the position of the unallocated space matters (on the left or the right side)?
Can I format those 34.18 Gib when my HDD is mounted or do I need to use a CD live?
How much swap memory do I need? (Wind 100 /2Gb ram)

Thanks in advance for your answers.

There is no problem the thing is you need to install first XP or windows OS of your choice then what ever space is left can be allocated with the help of gparted (Ubuntu) disk manager...keep about 15 GB and format it to ext3 file system as root (/) then 500 Mb of swap is good enough I am having about 313 Mb is working fine with 768 MB RAM which was assigned by ubuntu itself. Make sure to update & upgrade your OS daily or in 2-3 days as the releases are coming quick and fast. by opening terminal and typing.....
sudo apt-get update then press enter and type pw when prompted, follow the same procedure for the following commands:

sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove
