The list of off-line games for Ubuntu is very long. I checked by looking at applications->Add/Remove then clicking on the games tab. That lists the games easily and immediately installable through the Ubuntu package manager. There are hundreds.

The games you list above, I don;t know. Many on-line games run using Java inside a web browser. Those are compatible with Ubuntu.

Some other games are Macromedia Shockwave Flash based. These can work with Ubuntu by installing the Macromedia Flash plugin for Linux. I prefer not to use non-free addons like the flash player and would rather do without or help write something better.

When I say free, I mean Free as in Libre, not free as in price.

Here's a list of games that are Native to Ubuntu.

http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Native_Games

You can also run some Windows games on Ubuntu using Wine or Cedega (like World of Warcraft and Eve Online for instance).

Cheers

I'm not much of a game player so I can't say about those specific games but there are a number of good games that run natively. Maybe it's a bit old school but check out Nexuiz. You can install it from synaptic. Another cool native game is World of Padman. Also a bit old school perhaps but very cool. You have to download it (i.e. no native install but it runs without any modification). Download from http://www.worldofpadman.com/.

Hi there,

No - not all Windows games work on Ubuntu.

Certain games like World of Warcraft, Eve Online etc do work on Ubuntu
using a Windows compatibility layer, but your mileage may vary.

A good place to start looking is the Wine compatibility database
http://appdb.winehq.org/ This shows how well games should work using
Wine.

If you want all of your games to work well, I'd reccomend dual-booting
Windows and Ubuntu.

That way, you can have the inherent security and great feature set of
Linux for your day-to-day computing tasks, keeping your Windows
partition only for gaming. When you're using the Windows partition for
gaming only, you're much less likely to infect it with viruses and
spyware and slow it down too leaving your games running better for
longer.

Cheers

Chris

I found that my snazzy compiz effects were getting in the way of my java stuff working. you can adjust your effects level in System > Preferences > Appearance. turn them down or off and give it a go.

If not that, I'd say it's your installation of java, but I'm not expert.
