Using compiz in gdm

Asked by towheedm on 2010-03-07

I am customizing my gdm screen. I have changed my theme using:
sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --type string --set /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme "New Wave"
and then my window border using:
sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/general/theme "AgingGorilla"
After restarting, my new gdm theme is shown as specified above. I log in to my desktop and get my usual theme (set to DarkRoom) for my windows. Now I enable compiz for my gdm screen by doing the following:
1. Copied /usr/shar/app-install/desktop/compiz.desktop to /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/
2. Disabled metacity as the compositing manager by doing sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager false.
3. Enabled compiz as the compositing manager by doing sodu -u gdm gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/wm_use_compiz true. Don't think I needed to do this though.

Now when I restart and log in to my desktop, my window borders are set to AgingGorilla. If I try to set my theme using gnome-appearance-properties I can change anything but the window border. It is stuck as AgingGorilla.

How can I get my change my theme while keeping compiz enabled in my gdm screen? If I remove the compiz.desktop file from /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow, my desktop theme is back to my setting and I can change it as I want.
