Enabling compiz in gdm

I have been customizing the gdm screen. I changed the appearance of the controls using:
sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --type string --set /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme "New Wave"
and the window borders using:
sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/general/theme "AgingGorilla"

I restart and my theme is as specified above. After logging in I get my usual theme for my windows (this is set to DarkRoom.). I now enable compiz for gdm by doing the following:

Compiz is a window decoration system. Because no window manager as such is started on GDM stage, it is not possible to enable it there, sorry.

Can you help with this problem?
