Ubuntu 7.04 x64 does not install

Asked by Lu

I have PC with AMD dual core CPU and 2Gb RAM. VGA is ATI X1550. I've no idea what I am doing wrong, but after boot up and clicking on "Install or Start Ubuntu" I clearly can see that the kernel loads ok, the installation according the progress bar is fine and riches the end and after that the computer goes in deep irresponsible mode. Only works RESET button. I tried check CD integrity and seems to be fine. I haven't play with functional buttons on the bottom (as they pop up so fast :) ). Also I am assuming that Ubuntu will take care about creating partitions. I have 2 HDDs one WinXP installation and 4 entirely free partitions (NTFS and FAT32). As a hardcore windows user I finally decided to give a try to Linux-kind OS and Ubuntu was recommended by many friends of mine. Please if you can help prescribe me a solution. Much obliged!

Update:
Is there some issues with analog vs DVI interface? I mean shall I expect that Ubuntu during installation is redirecting all to analog output? It shouldn't be right on my opinion but I've read some similar cases....

I have a similar configuration, and works fine! (Dualcore AMD64 CPU, ATI graphics card, but only 1 Gig RAM)
I use the "alternate amd64"-CD, and installed Ubuntu 7.04 in TEXT MODE. (I am old rider.)
Please try this wint a REWRITABLE media.
I an pry to the result.
