ubuntu 7.04 install issue

Asked by rp4643

I have down loaded and burned the Rescue CD as informed in the windows dual boot instructions. I boot the rescuse CD and get the to the Boot: (screen) I type run_qtparted(as instructed page 4 of 7.... Get kernel not found error.

I hit the enter key.. I get to another prompt, type run_qtparted and notta, . I type startx and get a GUI interface. One of the icons is gparted (not qtparted). I launch it and get the partitioning screen. It does not allow me to re-partion my IDE drive.

My question is: the windows dual boot document says to launch qtparted from the rescue cd but qtparted in not part of that ISO image of teh rescue CD it says to use. am I worng?

Also the steps to launch qtparted to not sync with the instructions.
Thanks

I'm not sure exactly which dual-boot tutorial you're following, however it seems that some others have run into the same problems over on the SystemRescueCd forums <http://www.sysresccd.org/forums/>. One suggestion is to try the following options at the very first prompt of the CD:
fb640 nousb
fb800
fb800 nodetect

Try running 'run_qtparted' at your second prompt and hopefully one of them will get you back on track.

first: sorry for my bad engilsh

When you understand "dual boot" with windows:
you DON'T use qtparted or gparted!!!!
-qtparted is died, nobody else make new version from this
-gparted is not compatible with DOS/WINDOWS partitioning STANDARDS!!!!! (currently)

fdisk is COMPATIBLE with "DOS compatibility flag" (default on)

DOS and WINDOWS like partitions on CYLINDER boundary (with begining and also ending)
