Karmic upgrade - no signal to display after splash window

Asked by chuckNbanna

I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 on an IBM Intellistation Z Pro (64-bit).

Install went smoothly.

Upon restart, everything works fine up until the log-in screen. The normal hardware checks all run and the new white Ubuntu symbol appears but when it switches to the log-in screen, a "No signal" message appears on the display and the green power light goes orange.

I can still log-in remotely from another machine and access all the files and drives, run jobs etc., so the machine did start-up properly, it is just an issue with the display.

Any suggestions?

Chuck

Boot to recovery root console (hold shift at boot and select recovery mode then select root)

run:

mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_old; dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg; shutdown -r now

Should give you a basic desktop

Can you also give the output of:

lspci | grep -i vga

Thanks

thanks, that worked.

lspci|grep -i vga reports:

02:00 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G80 [Quadro FX 4600] (rev a2)

the display seems to work as normal now.

Glad you got the gold. Do you have 3D acceleration too?
