office jet 4540 does not scan in 9.04

i run ubuntu 9.04 and purchased a hp officejet 4540 all in one and it does not scan it starts to scan and then freezes.it then gives you a error message.it prints fine.

i had the paper to be scanned in the wrong way it works perfect now
