Typing accented vowels:french/spanish/etc in Unicode

Asked by Jose D De Moya

Is there a way to type accented vowels using the numbers ascribed to accented vowels ("stressed") and other specials characters in foreign languages by using a combination of a key plus the Unicode numbers? Example: in Windows and using the ASCII table you get the letter "é" by pressing and holding ALT and typing the numbers 130. Is that possible using Unicode numbers? Thanks.

God bless,

José

¡Hola!

I have not the answer, but a workaround. I am a french (francès, français) in England who is learning Spanish.
So I have to master 3 languages.
I bought a US keyboard, and use US international layout, which allow me to use all dead keys for accent, and AltGr and Shift+AltGr for other characters. Which is what am I doing now!

Another solution I just tried is to define a Compose key in Keyboard Layout, and to get characters via three keys like:
Compose then " ' " then " e ", to get "é".
As Compose key I tried CapsLock which I never use, but you can use Menu, WindowsLogo left or right.
I continue to search for UNICODE.

Delance, thanks so much. Your second solution is what I am using now and using the same key, CapsLock, for the same reasons. Thanks for your help. Muchas gracias.

God bless,

José

This varies alot from application to application / environment to environment.

I recommend this article on Wikipedia for a list of some ways to do this:
