HP D2460 printer warnings - not owned by root

Asked by Bob Gillaspy

The following messages occur frequently with HP D2460 printer and Ubuntu 9.10

'printer-state-message': u'Filter directory "/usr/lib/cups/filter" for printer "Deskjet-D2400-series" not owned by root',
                       'printer-state-reasons': [u'cups-insecure-filter-warning'],

Administrator is able to re-enable printer, but other users cannot without admin. password. Re-enabling printer clears the problem.

A more complete printer trouble shooting text file is available if needed.

How can I resolve this printer enabling issue and/or the cups filter warning?

Can you give the output if:

ls -la /usr/lib/cups/filter

Also make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest HPLIP

Downloaded the latest HPLIP. All seems to be working as it should.

Thanks for your quick reply and good common sense.

I will not include the result of the ls command unless it is still needed.
