Problem with package update mngr.

Asked by scifisam

Whenever I try to check my updates if any I get a message saying E:malformed line 63 in source list /ect/apt/sources.list {Dist Parsed} E:The list of sources could not be read.

Can anyone help me to repair this? I'm a real newbie and need specific instructions if at all possible

 Thanks Scifisam

While I don't think this is related to desktopcouch in any way, could you please copy the contents of /ect/apt/sources.list and paste them here so that we could see that and check what's wrong?

E: Malformed line 63 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Could you please open gedit and open /etc/apt/sources.list file in it? Then please copy the contents of that file to this question.

I wish there was an easier way to contact and have meaningful comunication back and forth .I really am completely new to almost everything Linux/ubuntu.I bought some disks from osdisks and am beginning to think that was a mistake.Anyway if anyone is interested in helping me email would be more conveniant for me unless someone can show me a better way.I don't even know how to text using a cell phone.At least not well.

scifisam, I believe you might want to visit http://ubuntuforums.org/ which is the best place to get help for new ubuntu user from ubuntu community.

I will change the project to ubuntu for this question since that was not actually targeted desktopcouch.

Dear Folks,
Thanks for trying., I will completely erase and re partiont my hard drive and reinstall ubuntu from Ubuntu instead of the disks I purchased until I know how to use evrything better.At least I will have better support that way.I hope so anyway.Evidently ubuntu and Cananocal do not support the disk software that I purchased.I had assumed that they were the same yet I could be working with it sooner if I just went ahead and bought it.Sorry for all the time but thank you.You all may consider this peoblem solved for the moment.
