Well that is a little bit of an unfair question. Ubuntu will run on any system with at least 256mb RAM, and a 1GB processor. Xubuntu can run on even lower, ridiculously low with the Alternate CD. In making your PC more compatible with Ubuntu there is no straight answer. If you want it to be faster, get a faster processor and motherboard. Faster Harddrive speed, SATA disks. However I would never recommend getting the most expensive of the latest. Reason being that Ubuntu may not be fully compatible with it yet. For pretty good performance I recommand a 3000+ processor (I am 2800++). At least 2GB of RAM. SATA harddrives. and a very good motherboard. I know someone with these specs and Ubuntu whizzes on it.
