How can I get my nvidia 6200 to resolution 1440x900

Asked by Fabio Marzocca

I have just installed a new nVidia 6220 512 and enabled drivers v.185.

Everything seems working can't get the card to the resolution of my LCD 1440x900. The max resolution available in nvidia-settings is 1024x768.

I have also put this modeline in my xorg.conf, without success:

Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync

go to system-admin.-hardware drivers then remove 185 drivers restart the pc . go to system-preference-display set the resolutions to what you want .then reinstall nvidia drivers 185 . should do the trick..

Greg,

thank you, but that didn't work. I finally got my resolution by adding two rows in the xorg.conf file (HorizSync and VertRefresh). It looks like the card doesn't read the monitor EDID.

Anyway now the problems are two:

1. the resolution setting (1440x900) is not persistent after rebooting. I have also run sudo nvidia-settings with no luck;
2. No direct rendering available:
    glxinfo | grep direct
   direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)

if you want the resolution to stay set , set them in the display setting .. that is one of the first i leaded in ubuntu .

Greg,

to make persistent the resolution over a boot, I had to click on "Save to X Configuration File" in nvidia-settings.

Thanks. I am still struggling with the direct rendering issue...
