Is there a way to encrypt the hard drive after Ubuntu is already installed?

Asked by coljohnhannibalsmith

I'm using Hardy 8.04 AMD64

I have the following partitions:

/dev/sda1 ext3 / 142.96 GiB

/dev/sda2 extended 6.09 GiB

/dev/sda5 linux-swap 6.09 GiB

I already have linux installed. Is there anyway to encrypt the drive?

Also, how about if I want to dual boot with Windows 7?

Thanks, John

This is an established installation.

I have lots of applications, customization and data.

Currently it isn't a matter of choice encrypting the complete hd after the fact of an established installation.
The choice is to backup and start new or e.g. to create separate encrypted partitions and to move sensible data.
