How do I get sound useing ubuntu 9.10 I can't even get sound on youtube

I cannot get sound useing ubuntu 9.10 no output , none on youtube videos or any videos, but can on ubuntu 8.04

Do you have the flash plugin installed?

sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin

The flash plugin was the big hold up thanks , I still have the problem of ubuntu 9.10 freezing up constantly even after I logged in to ubuntu . my ubuntu 8.04 never has done that
