Administration->Software Sources, untick the checkbox w/c with words like "install from CD/DVD drive". Click on Close and choose Reload on the next window that pops-up. You could now do your regular update once the reload process is finish.

tried but didn't work. first error msg is to install cd in drive. two choices ok or cancel. cancel brings me back to original update install window. Clicking OK gives me error msg saying couldn't fetch cd (even if i did or didn't install cd. I'm into some dort of circular argument.

@ John hunziker

See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu or you can edit your source list with

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and make line referring to CD-rom look like this

#"deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386

Sop you will just put # sign if it is not in front of that line.Save file and close.In terminal type

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Can you help with this problem?
