fakeraid and grub (with existing windows partition on RAID0)

Asked by jpapertowel on 2010-02-21

I want to install Ubuntu amd64 (minimal, no desktop environment) onto my Intel raid0 setup that already has a Windows 7 partition taking up 900 GB of the 1500 GB. I'm going to use Ext4 with a 2 GB swap which is easily done and all, however I'm afraid that grub won't install properly...does the grub package in Karmic or Lucid have Ext4 and fakeraid support? I tried a few hours ago using Debian and after I finished installing I found out that the grub that Debian provides only works with Ext3 and fakeroot, but not Ext4 and fakeroot (using Sid installer, installing Sid). Which caused my Windows installation to die and I lost everything. :(

Can I install Ubuntu using fakeraid for raid0 with Ext4? If so, how, so that I don't lose my windows installation again.
Please don't give me a copy+paste link to a wiki article that's from 2006 and clearly not up to date.
