bug-report invalidated - why?

Asked by Didi

Today I reported 2 bugs for my few days old Kubuntu installation. I used the builtin bug reporting tool (I guess it's Apport) bcs that way config info is automatically included, saving much time.
One of the reported bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdemultimedia/+bug/524650
However, as you see, few hours later the bug report was invalidated, telling me that this should be reported to KDE, bcs it's not package related. I'm a bit confused now. Doesn't "triaging", as it's described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage , also mean to forward bug reports upstream? What did I misunderstand here?

The person who labelled it invalid seems to be asking you to forward it upstream. Sometimes it is more helpful for the person with the problem to report a bug upstream so that the upstream devs can contact you.

Sorry, I still don't get it. Isn't forwarding upstream part of the job of a triager?

It is not required of the traiger. A triager is a volunteer. You are
making it sound like they are employed to work on Ubuntu. I would
again recommend that you please report your bug upstream.

Don't misunderstand me, I know this is done by volunteers and I don't complain, just wonder. I just didn't get why my bug-report was instantly flagged "invalid" with the explanation that the bug is not (K)ubuntu-package related, while I guess that would apply to most of the bugs reported.
Probably the fact that Ubuntu in most GUI-apps included a menu entry for easy bug reporting which automatically attaches config files and in case of a crash the backtrace, created too high expectations in me about how well bugtracking integration actually is done.
Anyway, thanks for your efforts!

After you file your bug with KDE, feel free to reopen your bug and attach a
bug tracker to it... Or if you want to email me the info for the KDE
reported, I can do that for you.
