Installing .rpm files on Ubuntu

Asked by Annihilan

I wanted to make the conversion to Linux, and have started to, but I wanna install plugins to watch like videos and play online games, but like adobe doesn't support x86_64 :( so I found nspluginwrapper, making the Adobe 32 plugin work on this 64 Linux...and it gave me a .rpm file, and I have absolutely no idea how to install this, whenever I try anything it feels like a pathetic attempt, keep in mind I'm a COMPLETE NOOB on Linux so don't assume I know squat. I would appreciate help a lot.

Hello,
Alien is the right choice. So do following steps:

If you installed alien:

press Alt+F2->enter gnome-terminal->enter sudo alien yourpackagename.rpm->enter your root password ->if the deb package build->sudo dpkg -i yourpackagename.deb

if you need to install alien enter sudo apt-get install alien before sudo alien yourpackagename.rpm

Ok.....when I do alien -t nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm is says
Warning: alien is not running as root!
Warning: Ownerships of files in the generated packages will probably be wrong.
File "nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm" not found.

What exactly do I do?

And how do I change into the directory, I do /home/nick/Desktop/ and it says
bash: /home/nick/Desktop/ is a directory.

Should I do /home/nick/Desktop/nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm
or
alien -t /home/nick/Desktop/nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm
?
