Existing GDM2Setup project, will this help or how can we assist?

There is an existing project here on launchpad (GDM2Setup) that addresses these issues in Karmic. Initial feedback has been good, and we would like to make you aware of the project's existence as well as offer any help that we can to address the issue more permanently in Lucid.

Great project, well done. Will there be translation templates?

Thank you. We have several more features that we want to add (such as theme-file and xsplash support), but are not sure if our time might become wasted if the project is already underway here.

As far as language templates go: Yes I would like to do the templates, unfortunately I am not sure how to proceed. Can you point me in a direction or at some Python or generic documentation? I should be able to do basic French, Dutch, Spanish and German translations once I have the concept down.

Lets say you choose Lucid + all languages. Well there is gdm, but of course no gdmsetup yet, because you can't make the second step before the first one. Sorry, not much of help so far.

Thank you for the direction and links. I will begin studying from there how to do the translations for our project. This is an obvious need for our utility to be taken seriously. I think at this point the question is more clearly stated as "How can we ensure that our time is not wasted due to being superseded - while not simply waiting for someone else to solve the issue for us"

How do I reinstall gdm because it is freezing since I installed gdm2setup. Have tried removing it and reinstalling several times, always the same problem. Greeter refuses to show the password entry box and when I click, it freezes. Only thing which does works is the disability menu. Shutdown menu also frozen.

Since GDM2Setup makes no changes to the file system beyond configuration settings at this time, I would suggest posting this as a bug to the GDM2Setup project (https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm2setup) so that the issue can be resolved correctly and improve the product.

When you do, please make sure to post any and all actions that you have taken to resolve the issue or that may affect the login screen (such as manually editing the glade file or directly changing settings in gconf etc) as well as a dump of the settings (results from 'sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 -a /desktop/gnome/background').
