ISO File!

Asked by Annihilan

OK. I downloaded Ubuntu on my computer, only to learn it can't write due to a CD-ROM incompatibility issue with x64, so I downloaded it on a writing computer, only to find it's an ISO image as compared to what it was when I downloaded it originally, a bunch of files that I would suspect that are bootable, and I can't load an ISO, and WinRAR can't "create" the files when I ask it to extract the files contained in the Image. I would really like to try out Linux/Ubuntu, I've heard some pretty great things about it, so can someone help me?

If I understand correctly you have downloaded the .iso for ubuntu but are unable to burn it to a CD. Is that Correct? And you are using 64 bit windows? I'm afraid I don't know whether this works with win64 or not but I suggest checking here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

If your CD burner won't work with win64 that's a different issue and one I can't help with. I'd send you to either MS or your drive manufacture but it's doubtful they would be of any help. If you can't get the above to work with win64 I suggest a trip to a friends house or you local library :).

You can also request a free CD from Canonical.

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

It can take a few weeks but it's free. :-)

I really don't understand your problem exactly, you can't burn or open your ISO of ubuntu??? well, if you want to burn the CD use a program like NERO or CloneCD. To open a ISO image maybe need a program like PowerISO, UltraISO, WinRAR. Maybe i need more information about your problem.
