I have Ubuntu Edgy, Xubuntu Edgy and Windows XP running currently (triple boot), and again:

- the sound card is detected in Ubuntu Edgy but the volume is muted by default. It can easily be unmuted, however I still haven't figured out how to assign the hotkeys (i.e. FN+F8/F9).

- the internal mic is not working, only external works after enabling the the Capture options in the sound settings.

- the screen by default looks ugly and can be fixed with 915resolution (however the Universal Repos has to be enabled - it took me time to figure that out!).

THE GOOD NEWS is that Xubuntu detects and enables the sound automatically, however the other issues are the same as Ubuntu.

The other interesting thing is that Xubuntu optimizes the sound; when I put the internal speakers on FULL VOLUME in Ubuntu I can hear alot of Noise (interference) however that issue is fixed in Xubuntu.

Seems like we are on the right track
