Hosting for Ubuntu Canada

Asked by Corey Burger on 2007-01-22

Ubuntu Canada needs some hosting. We already have ubuntu-ca.org and a basic website on server hosted by myself (static pages only). Once the hosting is setup, we will need to know an external IP, as I do not control ubuntu.ca, but have the ability to get it pointed at any IP.

There's a chance we may want a Planet on this as well - it's been discussed but not decided yet. I have no idea if we could follow the planet. subdomain standard given our domain control issues or not...could just go with /planet if need be. More on this later (most real discussion is basically being withheld until we have the hosting to work with).

Umm, tony, wrong button.

Corey, I've created the site and sent you an e-mail with the details. Let me know when you're ready to update the DNS if you need help with that.

Corey passed the login information on to me - I've been doing most of the web work on the existing Ubuntu Canada site - but neither of us can get the login info he was given to work....

Matthew Nuzum (newz) said : #5

ok, try it now

Thanks Matt, seems to be working now. We'll get something set up in the next week or so and redirect our DNS.

How much space do we have available on this LoCoTeam account, and what restrictions are there on it? Is there a page somewhere with info for LoCos using this hosting?

Would it be possible to get drupal installed in this space and get the -ca.org name redirected once that happens? Thanks

Corey, can you please clarify what it is you need?

Corey Burger (corey.burger) said : #14

I understood that if we needed drupal installed on this, we would need to get you to do it. We also need the -ca.org domain redirected to it.

Daft Janitor. Isn't there a "Yes, this really is still open" tickbox
somewhere to shut the Janitor up?

Related, getting that Drupal setup for Ubuntu Canada sometime soonish
would be nice...

Brian Burger (bburger) said : #17

Not meaning to be rude, but does it really take six months to drop a
Drupal install into place for Ubuntu Canada?

Brian, the procedure has changed for quite some time now, I'm sorry that you've not been updated on this. First of all, you need to subscribe to the loco team contacts mailing list so that you do get all of the important communication such as changes in the hosting procedures.

What you need to do is contact the Canonical sysadmins on #canonical-support IRC channel on freenode. Tell them that you need hosting for your loco team and give them the details.

Here is the link to the loco contacts lists: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/loco-contacts

Here is the link to the relevant thread in the archives for the most recent change (although there have been other changes prior to this as well) https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/loco-contacts/2007-August/001511.html
