Rooting Android cell help

Asked by Randy Mentor

I've been trying to follow this procedure:
http://baheyeldin.com/android/how-root-rogers-sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-gingerbread-233.html

I have extracted the zip file. I have edited the error in code.

But I keep getting "no such file or directory" errors.

So NO PROGRESS.

I tire of the constant running out of space and unable to update messages.
Yet I can't remove stupid apps I don't even use.

I've been at this for about 6 hours in all and have reached my limit.

Is there anybody who can help me root my phone?

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, model LT15a
Android version 2.3.4
Build 4.0.2A.0.42

Hi Randy, This question might be better posed to an Android tech support
forum, rather than an Ubuntu one... Maybe try here:
http://androidforums.com/android-phones/

Cheers,
Randall

P.S. Once the Ubuntu Phone comes out, that will be a whole new story ;)

Thanks for that Randall, but the source of my difficulty is within Ubuntu itself as I am unable to make my way through the Ubuntu errors I keep getting in terminal. That's why I thought to post here. So for me it's an ubuntu question in how do I get past the file not found errors. I can clearly see the files in Nautilus. So perhaps it's simply syntax errors in Terminal.

I have found lots of online support in that other OS which I am reluctant to use.

I'll certainly have a look at the link you provided.

So yes, I follow the android link you provided, and EVERYTHING there leads to using that other OS and .exe files.
SAD.

Would they run in WINE on Ubuntu? That might be a good trick ;)

Cheers,

Hi Randy,

The process looks fairly straightforward to me, but I don't have a Rogers Sony Ericsson phone so I can't try the process, but I can try to help. First thing, what command gives you the errors and what (exactly, character by character) are the errors.

Hey Randy, have you looked at this <http://esausilva.com/2010/05/13/setting-up-adbusb-drivers-for-android-devices-in-linux-ubuntu/> tutorial on how to get the USB link setup so that adb works?

Hey Kim,
It appears the adb is perhaps the problem. So I'll check out that link.
Thanks

Well this just seems to be beyond my level of experience. So I'm giving up.
As much as I don't want to, I think I may have to just do a factory restore on the phone and reload everything and hopefully not run into the same situation.
It's frustrating because I can't even get past the necessary Ubuntu config necessary to even begin the process of starting to root the phone. I can follow along so far and then...deep end of the pool!

Thanks for trying to help

Yes, adb is definitely the root of your problem. Here is what I have after unzipping the files:

kim@kim-Lenovo-G555:~/test$ cd zergRush_automated_Linux_root/
kim@kim-Lenovo-G555:~/test/zergRush_automated_Linux_root$ ls -l files
total 2004
-rwxrwxrwx 1 kim kim 159620 Oct 26 2011 adb
-rw-rw-r-- 1 kim kim 1075144 Aug 14 2011 busybox
-rw-rw-r-- 1 kim kim 22228 Feb 29 2008 su
-rw-rw-r-- 1 kim kim 762010 Feb 29 2008 Superuser.apk
-rw-rw-r-- 1 kim kim 23052 Oct 21 2011 zergRush

For some reason the runme-linux script can't find the adb program file on your system.
