Management of Hindi Translation group

Asked by Gaurav Mishra

Greetings,

I am running the ubuntu hindi translation team and want to manage it in a better way to encourage users to add translation in a easier way.

My most of the team members are non-technical people and for them finding the way out to do translation is sometime difficult.

So here are some options that i would like to know possible to implement:-

1) Add packages that need to be translated on the homepage of translation team , Also if we can see stats of the current translation for that package that would be great.

2) Prioritize the packages for translation.

3) Get a one click link to the translation page , I have found many people translating the old release which are no more in use. Waste of resources.

Let me know if i am missing something or if you guys can help me to find the right documentation towards it.

Regards
Gaurav Mishra

Hi Gaurav and thanks for the feadback!

How can you tell what packages needs translations ? Can you please be more specific?

Where and how to put them on the team page? Can you come with a mockup or some visual help?

Right now, from the teams home page, you can add links to some templates that you consider are more important for your team.

Also the strings that needs review/attention are listed under the `translations` section.
i.e https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-ro

> 2) Prioritize the packages for translation.
This is already done.
We track the priority policy on this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/TemplatesPriority

Feel free to give feedback regarding how we can improve the current priority policy.

> 3) Get a one click link to the translation page , I have found many people translating the old release which are no more in use. Waste of resources.

The Ubuntu translations page is focused on Karmic :http://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu
Karmic is the current translation focus.

From where we should get that one click ?
Where should we direct that one click link?

Note: In Launchpad we have translation sharing, so if the same untranslated string is part of Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid... translating it in Jaunty will automatically update the translation in Karmic and Lucid.

Kindest regards,
Adi

Hi Gaurav,

Just a quick note to complement Adi's detailed info: while you are free to use any of the communication channels to reach the translations team, I'd encourage you to use the mailing list for general discussion, so that other members from the global Ubuntu translations community can participate and give you some help [1] as well.

Anyway, that's just a comment, as I say, feel free to the communication means which better suits you.

Regards,
David.
