Create Repair / Restore / Back up disk Ubuntu 8.10 – Ps3

Asked by Heroknotten

I have some issues with my 8.10 installation on my Ps3. One is that I can’t make the wireless network working (bug/298661). When trying to solve that problem, I have tried several solutions, which usually end up with a Ps3 that does hang up during restart. Resulting that I must reinstall the 8.10 and downloading all updates, which takes 3 hours each. After doing these several times, I have been looking for a way to create a back up / restore CD, so I can restart with my old “working” configuration instead of reinstalling 8.10 from scratch.
I see there may be a solution ”create USB start up disk”. But my Ps3 doesn’t allow me to install the necessary file/service because the Ps3 don’t allow me to install a required file called syslinux.

Does anyone have a good solution for creating a Restore CD for 8.10 on Ps3?

Sincerely grateful

Converting this to a question, as I think there is already an answer.

Instead of reinstalling when it won't boot, you can mount and edit configuration from within ps3-kboot. See if that helps. Here are some instructions:

Can you help with this problem?
