Ubuntu 16.04 dual boot with W dindows 8.1 freezes randomly

Newely reinstalled Ubuntu upgraded to 16.04 from 14.04 freezes very often. I'm havin to use power switch to stop & restart. Also the boot startup and shutdown processes are very slow with plennty of output on the screen before system shows Ubuntu desktop.
