Restore Ubuntu (Gnome) from the beginning (migration)

Asked by compagnon

Hi guys !

Congratulations for your incredible good job.

I have a proposition of enhencement.

It could/should be fine if we could restore Ubuntu Gnome account from the beginning.
Let me explain.

I activate the automatic backup on a server (FTP, Samba, or - why not - owncloud).
The system stores itself regularely (it should be fine if we could navigate in it like Time Machine).
The system stores the account name, the config, the partition, fstab, location, language, keyboard...

One day, I have to change my machine ou resinstall it.

I put th CD or USB key, start the machine and install.
First question : would you restore from an preceding account --> yes
What is the server ? --> IP, URL, paswd...
What account ? --> Mine
Password ?--> Mine

That's it.

It restores automaticcaly my machine : account, data, wallpaper, keyboard...
Et voilà !

You can do this using deja-dup, however its not integrated with the installer so you would do a fresh install, then restore using deja-dup
