Acer Aspire 5749 running 11.10

Asked by johnny

Hello Ubuntu Team,

just a remark on the Ubuntu Friendly test for the Acer Aspire 5749: the function keys do work to change the screen brightness when you add the following to the the boot options : acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor

Maybe this helps to add one more star for the system at least in Precise 12.04.

Best Regards
Jan

Hello,

after severel retests and also thanks to Toz on ubuntuforums.org I can confirm:

 - only the boot option acpi_backlight=vendor has to be set to have the screen brightness function keys work
 - additionally one should update to kernel 3.0.0-15 to solve a problem with a black screen after reopening the notebook lid
