Missing latin character "ə" (lowercase)

Asked by Jamal

I have tested this with practically every latest ubuntu font. The character İ am referring to is this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C6%8F

Ubuntu fonts do have this character's uppercase version, which works fine.
However, when I type its lowercase version, I either get an unknown character symbol or I get its capital form.
Is the lowercare version also going to get added in the future? There are a few languages that use this character.

Thanks in advance

I assume that this is the same issue as the one already reported in bug #1689901

Yes it is. The missing character's unicode value U0259 (lowercase version). However, it automatically defaults to U018F (uppercase version) specifically on Ubuntu fonts. If I use Noto fonts for example, these characters are both available and do not mix.

The other question is already 7 years old. Is this something that would be considered a bug to be fixed?

Maybe it helps if you create an issue document at https://github.com/canonical/Ubuntu-Sans-fonts and/or https://github.com/canonical/Ubuntu-Sans-Mono-fonts (I do not know whether it affects only one of the font series or both).

It affects all ubuntu fonts.
Where should I create an issue?

sign in (or sign up) to github
press the green "New issue" button and fill in the fields with all information that you deem relevant.

Thanks, I will report it there.

I am sorry, what does fruits abonnement have to do with anything?

I know there are alternative fonts, Noto for example. However, Ubuntu (barring the lack of Serif fonts) is so complete that I felt like I should report this issue.
