Font Ligatures for Ubuntu Font family

Are there any plans to introduce support for font ligatures into the Ubuntu font family, especially in the Ubuntu Mono font?

I like this font very much and use it for coding, but I also like to use font ligatures as they are supported by the FiraCode font. Unfortunately I cannot have both up to now. Are there plans to support font ligatures in the Ubuntu font family in the near future?
