characters printing incorrectly

Asked by Mindy Born

When printing to Canon printers, the Ubuntu font characters do not print properly (i.e. quotation marks and apostrophes are substituted with 8's and 9's). We installed a different Canon driver, which solved that issue, but then it created a different one in which random lines of text look like jpgs of the font and print lighter than the rest of the text. Is this a known issue or something that we need to look to fix on our end?

Thanks,
Mindy

Please ensure that you have installed the latest version of the font (0.83). This was a known issue (bug 1334363).

This worked for printing (thank you!) but created another problem. In Microsoft Word and Excel, Ubuntu Light is a heavier weight than Ubuntu. In Word, it is as it should be.

Oh, I see. There is another report for that (bug 1512111), which is currently marked “In progress”, so hopefully a fix will arrive soon.

Thank you. I subscribed to that report. Do you know if there is an estimated timeframe for fixing this?

Hi, I'm writing to follow up on my original question. I experienced printing problems with version .80 (bug: 1334363); this bug was remedied in version .83; however that version had a different bug 1512111 that has yet to be resolved. Because of this, I'm still using version .80, which is what is available in Google Fonts, thereby still experiencing bug 1334363. Can you provide an update as to when a new version of the font will be released--solving both of these bugs--or if there are even plans to do so?

Thanks,
Mindy
