Is ubuntu-font-family dead/stagnant ?

Asked by Shirish Agarwal

Hi there,
Is ubuntu-font-family dead/stagnant. I ask as it seems nothing much is improving since the package seems to stuck at 0.8.0-ubuntu6 since ever.

ubuntu-font-family-sources (0.80-0ubuntu6) saucy; urgency=low

  * Mark fonts as Multi-Arch: foreign.
  * Bump Standards version.
  * Bump to debhelper 9.
  * Update debian/copyright to latest specification.

Both 0.8.1 and later seems to be not happening :( (the last track was in 2011).

In what way is the project _not_ dead or stagnant?

The last code change was committed almost 4 years ago.
Dalton Maag had reported that work was "almost completed" on additional character sets... In 2010. As they haven't released these extra character sets, I have to assume they never got payment for them either. And I don't see Canonical rushing to fund completion of this work (why should they? the buzz is way, way old).

He's dead, Jim.

The extra character sets broke the vertical metrics on the existing stuff which is why it was held back. Dalton Maag have actually been working on fixing that just recently… so to paraphrase John Cleese and Graham Chapman of Monty Python fame "Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!":
