Ubuntu Font Family

Possible to embed in a pdf?

Hi,

I've been confused for a while as to why Scribus won't embed any of the family into the pdfs it outputs.
When outputting to pdf any Ubuntu fonts can only be outlined. This is fine (and recommended) for print output but renders the pdf useless as a searchable document.

I've read that some fonts exclude this option by design but can't find any specific reference that it applies to the Ubuntu font family - indeed it would seem counter to the ethos of the font.

Scribus Version 1.4.1.svn
Using Ghostscript version 9.05
e.g. Ubuntu-R.ttf 0.80

Hello Matt, I use Inkscape to export documents with the Ubuntu Font Family embedded in PDF nearly every day. Use "Save a copy…", use "PDF" and untick "Convert texts to paths. Also avoid using filter/bluring effects or PDF versions below 1.4. Does that help?

If not, please could you provide an example SVG and its output PDF, containing both full fonts and fonts converted to curves in the same document, showing that Ubuntu is being converted to curves/outlines, but not the other fonts in the same document.

Thanks Paul,

This _does_ help as Inkscape has embedded the font just fine.
I'll have a further fiddle with my Scribus settings before hassling them with a bug report.
