Probems with onstalling software

Asked by clara0808

I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed on my HP laptop. However, when I have recently tried to install additional software packages, a message appears saying: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. Additionally it says: E:_cache->open() failed, please report.
I have tried to manually run dpkg --configure - a on the terminal, but I just get told that I am not a super user. What can i do about this?

begin the command with "sudo" (without the quotes). It stands for "superuser do" and temporarily gives you superuser privileges.

Can you help with this problem?
