Feedback on the HP EliteBook 850 G7 Notebook PC (202012-28477)

Asked by Eddy Perez

I’m using an HP EliteBook 850 G7 Notebook PC which includes built-in WWAN/mobile broadband hardware (SIM slot and internal 4G LTE capability). On Ubuntu, the 4G/LTE mobile data feature doesn’t work (the WWAN modem is not detected/usable), so I can’t connect via cellular data. The LTE module is Fibocom L860-GL (Cat 16) (HP spare part L27188-001). Is it possible to improve hardware support for this WWAN/LTE component in Ubuntu (driver/firmware/kernel support), or advise what is needed to make it work?

This system is certified with a pre-install image that is provided by the manufacturer when the system is built. Those images often include tweaks or out of tree driver work that has not made it into the upstream kernel yet. Unfortunately the release and use of those images are at the discretion of the OEM and they may not sell the Ubuntu pre-installed systems in all regions around the world.

The best option is to look into the support channels listed in the attached faq, likely there's an answer in the community,
