Ubuntu 16.04 screen freeze

Asked by Teddy Matthew Sunandar

I've bought a dell inspiron 11-3180 which is preinstalled with ubuntu 16.04 LTS. However, i updated to ubuntu 18 Lts (which was recommended by the software updater in ubuntu) and the screen froze during the login phase. I've tried to reinstall ubuntu 16.04 LTS on my laptop. It works ok after the reinstall, however, once i shut down the laptop and turn it back on, the screen freezes and only the mouse works. Is there any way to restore the previous manufacturer installed ubuntu? NB: Sadly i didn't recover my ubuntu 16.04 which was preinstalled.

What should i do next?

Hello,
For Ubuntu Preinstalled system, AFAIK the upgrade prompt (16.04 -> 18.04) should be disabled by default unless you have change it manually.

To recovery your pre-installed system, try these steps below:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+question/650013
Or contact Dell for this.
(Or you can try to install the linux-oem kernel on your 16.04)

Thanks
