Ubuntu Freezes Dell Inspiron 11-3162

Asked by Rusiru

My Dell Inspiron 11 3162 (Intel Pentium N3050 1.6 GHz, 2GB RAM, 500 GB HDD) came with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I installed Windows 10 replacing Ubuntu and then reverted back to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. My issue is that Ubuntu randomly freezes when I run for example a YouTube video in the background in chrome browser. I tried updating bios still not solved. Tried to set "intel_idle.max_cstate=1" in GRUB, still npt solved. Someone posted that Gnome will solve the issue so I installed Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 LTS, freezes frequent is elongated but atill freezes. I have a hunch that this might be due to heating, but I am not sure. I installed Ubuntu 17.10 and the problem is gone but it is slow compared to 16.04. What should I do?

Hello,
You can try to restore the pre-installed 14.04 Ubuntu by running the recovery.
