Cannot boot my STJCK1A8LFC Intel Stick after updating software

Asked by gitti

I have the above Intel stick with preloaded Ubuntu 14.04LTS .
I needed to use exfat formating on my USB sticks to allow file bigger than 4GB on them.
After installing the exfat utilities I kept getting error messages telling me that my libraries were not up to date.
I installed some software and got the warning that I was short of space in the root partition .. in the end I had 2% space
available. the installation went clean and I rebooted .. it does not boot any more but stays in a loop.
Booting part way over and over .. I suspect this is because there is too little space available the generate temporary files.
However I can get to BIOS via pressing F2 and potentially could boot through with a usb stick.
I will generate a standard Ubuntu 14.04 LTS boottable USB stick.
Can I boot with that and clean up to make my Intel stick usable again?
Let me know

Hello Gitti,

The easiest solution might be boot into the recovery mode, and restore your Intel Stick to the factory state.
Please hit ESC or Shift key to bring up the grub menu after the BIOS splash screen. And you will find an option there.

If you decided to clean it up with another bootable USB, it's feasible but you will need to know what to remove / fix.
It worth a try if you don't want to restore the HW. But better to be cautious about this.

Hello Po-Hsu,

Thank you for your answer .. it does not work.
I can get into BIOS via F2 key during boot and only select recovery boot see attached picture

It then starts the boot after choosing this "lonely" option.
The text IntelStick pops up shortly in the middle of the screen and then a 2 line message appears see picture and sample text
below.

[ 0.332827] pnp 00:02:can't evaluate _CRS: 1
[ 12.558866] i8812: No controller found
-

It then goes on with Ubuntu booting and doing lots of stuff I can see.
It does all this in a permanent loop coming back with the 2 line message over and over again.
I think the 2 messages are my problem note the numbers in them are not always the same.

Suspect I have corrupted what is on the stick by installing the software not leaving much spare space it said 3%
in the warning but did not tell me that it would not boot after completion of the installation.
Idiot me I did not make copy of the original stuff on the stick.

If you have any ideas on what I can try let me know.
I do not think loading an updated BIOS will help .. using the F7 mode Do you? I downloaded it and put
on an USB stick and it appears to be possible to do ..

Gitti

P.S.: I send an email to you but it was too big for Launchpad. I also tried to boot from a USB stick with
Ubuntu on it and got the grub menu to for it but got nothing when selecting to just boot from it without installing.

Hello,
I can't see any pictures here. You can try to upload it to somewhere like imgur.com
Or go to the community for help.
Or try a liveUSB with the latest Ubuntu to see if everything works fine on it.

Thanks
