Feedback on the Dell Latitude E6440 - Salado 14 Intel

Asked by Worth Bishop

Recently replaced hybrid drive due to failure. Installed Ubuntu 16.04. Only complaint is that space bar tends to add several spaces at a stroke rather than just one. Dell recommends BIOS update for Windows users. Only version of Ubuntu offered is 12.04: Dell Latitude E6440/E6540 Ubuntu Driver Package (Ubuntu 12.04.2) from http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=Y24FF&fileId=3332894306&osCode=1204A&productCode=latitude-e6440-laptop&languageCode=en&categoryId=CS.

Is there a 16.04 version.

Thanks!

Hello,
It looks like this keyboard issue can be fixed by upgrading the BIOS to (at least) A10 [1].
"Fixed Typing on internal Keyboard abnormally with Linux OS."
This kind of input issue is quite common on Dell laptops.

For the driver package, I don't think you need it if 16.04 works well with your laptop.

Cheers.
Sam
