Hello,
If your system works well with 64bit Ubuntu, it should be fine with 32bit version.
And you can also make 32bit application run on 64bit system, for more information, please check this article: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/32bit_and_64bit

I actually want a 32bit ubuntu installed in the laptop instead of the 64bit. I was wondering if there was a 32bit version out there.

But to be clear, almost every system was certified with 64bit Ubuntu, unless the vendor asked us to go with 32bit version.

Please feel free to try the stock image, here is another link for 14.04
