Dock issue with external monitors and dedicated GPU.

Asked by Ben Camp

A confirmed issue by the Linux support team (Peter Zhang) at Lenovo. When using the dedicated GPU and workstation dock for the P50 and P70 workstations and attaching external monitors there are graphical anomalies and display resolutions are altered. No saved changes persist on reboot.

I also have this problem with the Lenovo P50 with the Lenovo Thinkpad Workstation Dock (40A50230US).

When I put the laptop in the dock and plug in an external monitor in the dock and and enable the second screen the display flickers from black to off.

My work around is to plug in the external monitor through the HDMI port of the laptop and not the dock.

I have Ubuntu 14.04

I've had success using the mini-display port output from the side of the P50 in 16.04, but when trying to resize the built-in display things it kept cycling through different resolutions until the display change confirmation window timed out and returned it to normal. I'll see if I can use both the mini-DP and HDMI outputs from the P50 for 2 external monitors. It does defeat the purpose of the dock entirely though.
