Feedback on the Asus q304UA

Asked by Anindya Saha

I bought Asus q304UA in September this year. It comes with Windows 10 pre-installed. Before that I was a linux user, mostly depending on Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu alongside Windows 10, without any error. The sustem uses UEFI boot partition and I installed Ubuntu 16.04 in that. There was no problem during installation.

I could go into WIndows 10 from the grub. There was no issue with that.

But when I tried to boot ubuntu 16.04, it started booting successfully. After sometime, it showed some error message, which looked like ubuntu could not load some drivers. That was a big list with many codecs and all. Finally, the login froze and I could not enter the system. I tried to start the CLI by pressing ctrl+alt+F1/F2.... but it also did not work.

Similar thing happened for fedora 24 too. The installation was okay, the os booted but finally I could not enter into the system because of those failures. The list of failures was exactly the same as it was in ubuntu.

I guess this is a problem of the kernel to load some specific hardware specific drivers. I could not take the snapshot as I could not enter into the system.

I would appreciate any help, although I understand that it is quite difficult to find out a solution as I could not post anything explicitly. I think people who have faced similar issues with this particular model can show some way.
