Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 3558 - Iris 15 HSW

Asked by daniel

Hi,

I've just purchased a Dell Inspiron 3558 with Intel® Core™ i5-5200U 2.20GHz 15.6", 4GB, 500GB, DVD-RW, nVIDIA® GeForce® GT 920M 2GB with Ubuntu 14.04 14.04.5 pre-installed and when I try to update him the Ubuntu software updater gets stuck at "configuring grub-efi-amd64". After this if I restart the system I get a huge amount of Ubuntu internal error and the system reboots.

This is a big disappointment to see that a certified Ubuntu laptop has this kind of problems
Please provide me instructions on how to fix without having to loose the benefits of a Dell image.

Thank you,
Daniel

Hello,
Thank for reporting this, for your Ubuntu pre-installed system, do you have a more detailed information (screenshots, error outputs and etc.) when this happens?

It will be helpful for debugging this.

Also, you can try to run recovery to recover your system, if you can access your desktop, please search for "Dell recovery" in your dash. Or you can run factory restore on boot, which can be selected in the grub (hit ESC key after the Dell logo)

Cheers
