Feedback on the Dell Latitude 3150 - Plano BTM

Asked by Steven Herron

Problem installing Ubuntu on DELL Latitude 3150:

I am trying to install Ubuntu on a DELL latitude 3150, the laptop does not have a CD-drive, so I am using a USB stick.

I have tried both 14.04 and 16.04 with no luck

The bios says all the hardware is fine and I get to the (try live or install ubuntu menu). Once I select anything I get a blank screen and the system hangs. I have tried acpi=off and other common tricks.

I have tried other linux versions as well and am having hardware compatibility problems (touch-pad not working, wifi not working). The other linux versions also have problems on shutdown and rebooting.
Thus, I think it is a kernel issue.

Ubuntu certified this hardware with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit (which I have tried) [See: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201412-16319/ ]

What kernel was used for this certification?

Hello,
I would like to recommend you to go to the community, you can find the link in the FAQ here.

For the certified Dell 3150, it's certified with the Pre-installed Ubuntu 14.04, 3.13 kernel, standard image of Ubuntu may not work at all on the system or may not work well. Another thing to note is that the component listed here may differ from your laptop.
FAQ #1945: “Where can I get help or technical support?”.

Can you help with this problem?
