No information on new Dell systems

Asked by Levi Stanley

I have a Dell Precision 7710 and I am trying to find out which device will help me connect two external monitors to my laptop. Currently, I can only connect one monitor via the HDMI port, and Dell's 3100 is too flaky. Do you know of any device that will help me work with two external displays, and allow the laptop monitor to be included for 3 displays?

Err, sorry didn't mean for this to be added as an issue.

Jeff Lane suggests this article as an answer to your question. The attached FAQ will point you to a couple places where you can get an answer to this question. I'm sure this has probably been asked in one form or another more than once, so I'm sure there are several ideas out there.

I don't have that model personally, but I use a generic USB3 HDMI adapter.

Also, it looks, from a real quick look at the Dell website that this model has both HDMI and Mini-DisplayPort. It may be possible to use both the HDMI port AND a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to run two monitors. However, your ability to actually run dual monitors is going to really be dependent on the video card in that model, the driver and the capabilities of each.

There are several cards out there with multiple outputs (such as 1-HDMI, 1-DVI) but can only display out of one port at a time. And conversely, plenty that CAN do dual (or in this case triple) output.

Good Luck!
