Feedback on the Dell Precision Tower 7810 - Avalon

Asked by shypike

Ubuntu Desktop 14.04LTS installed, straight from an USB stick and fully updated.
The video driver seems to be buggy. Dark letters in text strings are randomly colored white.
This makes it impossible to use the system.
Changing themes doesn't solve it.

This effect shows up as soon as the GUI of the installer starts and continues after the system is fully installed and updated.

Hello,
I would suggest you to give proprietary video drivers a try, you can find them by searching "driver" in your dash.
If the proprietary driver does not work for you, please check the latest driver:
AMD - http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Intel - https://01.org/linuxgraphics
Nvidia - http://www.geforce.com.tw/drivers

Regards.

Thanks for the hint.
However, installing the original NVidia drivers is a nightmare.
After lots of googling and trying, this is the best solution:
 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
 sudo apt update
 sudo apt-get install nvidia-361 nvidia-settings
