Feedback on the Dell PowerEdge R720

Asked by Jacob Israel

Dear Ubuntu Developer,

Our lab own a Dell PowerEdge R720 server. We bought a NVIDIA GPU tesla k40m to install on the server. For research purpose, we need to change to Linux system.
The Technician of our department said, after change Operating System from Windows to Ubuntu. You could login to Ubuntu, but it does not support remote desktop and he was not be able to detect the GPU.

Could you give us some possible approach to resolve the problem ?
         Thank you very much.

Jeff Lane suggests this article as an answer to your question:

Please see the attached FAQ for information on getting technical support.

Desktop style graphics are not part of Ubuntu Server, which the R730 is certified with. The R730 is not tested nor considered supported by the desktop version of the OS, so your mileage may vary.

The technical support team may be able to help sort this out, or there may be answers on the forums or ask.ubuntu that will guide you.
FAQ #1945: “Where can I get help or technical support?”.
