Feedback on the Dell Inspiron 5558 - Tulip BDW 15

Asked by niTin RaNa

I see that as per the Ubuntu forum, the operating system is tested for an Intel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz , however my recently purchased Dell laptop 5558 model from a local store is powered with Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-5005U. Does this mean that I might have to face hardware to software compatibility issues when using?
And why is it that when the 5558 laptop is not tested of Ubuntu, it is for sale from Dell. Can I have bought a laptop that has been fraudulently sold to me? I would like to know if the Ubuntu works alright with any kinda processor ? Or if it needs to be particularly tested and match the right hardware components as in the link: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201501-16350/ as mentioned for the Dell 5558 with Intel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz.
Thanking you in Advance.

Hello,
CPU changes within the same generation, in this example it's the fifth generation: i7-5xxx vs. i3-5xxx, normally it won't cause troubles. However, this change might implies that other components could be different.

This Dell 5558 laptop was tested and certified with Ubuntu 14.04 pre-install image [1], with components listed in that page. Although it's not certified with stock image, you can still test it with a LiveUSB.

For difference between pre-install image and stock image, please check this article: "What's the difference between Certified (Pre-Installed) and Certified?"
